Once we received our Sampler Pack from Basu’s, my fiancé and I were excited to get cooking…well, I did the cooking, he really just ate.
The first meal I made with Basu’s Sampler Pack was:
Saffron Rice (which I just had to warm up)
Roasted Red Potatoes in Masala Sauce
Baked Seitan, Sautéed Mushrooms and Spinach with Peanut Masala Sauce
The Saffron Rice was amazing, perfectly seasoned and surprisingly tasty for something I only had to warm up in the microwave. The rice was awesome on its own, but with a little of the Masala sauce mixed in, it was heavenly. I roasted some red potatoes with a few spices, and then just dumped them into the already warmed Masala sauce; these were my absolute favorite part of this meal. I also made little Seitan bites with wheat gluten and spices, which I baked and then added sautéed muhrooms and spinach, then poured the Peanut Masala sauce over the whole thing. Both Masala sauces were delicious. The flavors were so savory and rich, but not overpowering; each Masala perfectly complemented the foods they were mixed into. My fiancé’s favorite was the Peanut Masala: he drowned his seitan and veggies in it as soon as the pictures were done being taken.
The next night, we decided we wanted to try and make some flatbread pizzas:
Flatbread Pizzas with Basu’s Vindaloo Sauce with Basil Toppings: Daiya vegan cheese, red onions, mushrooms, basil, spinach
I wasn’t sure how these would turn out, since I wasn’t using the usual pizza ingredients, but they were so good. I warmed the Vindaloo sauce before putting it on the flatbreads. I used two flatbreads for each pizza, since they’re thin; I spread some Vindaloo sauce on the first flatbread before placing the second on top and piling on the toppings. I baked these for about ten minutes – one of the easiest and tastiest meals I’ve ever made. The Vindaloo was so incredibly good as a pizza sauce – it had a delicious savory flavor and was so aromatic, it really enhanced the other toppings on these pizzas.
I cannot express my thanks enough for this delightful pack of sauces and I cannot wait to try some more recipes incorporating them. You and everyone else at Basu’s forever have my (and my fiancé’s) gratitude for creating such delectable (and VEGAN) sauces and rice. =)
